Kjarval Moves Me: Young people get to know Kjarval
An exhibition-project made in collaboration with third year students from the Faculty of Humanities, Kvennaskólinn in Reykjavik Junior College, and Anna Jóhannsdóttir (Anna Jóa) artist, critic and Art history and Theory teacher at Kvennaskólinn. During the preparation the students visited Kjarvalsstaðir several times in past months; where they have been introduced to the works of Jóhannes S. Kjarval, seen the museum‘s collection storage spaces and had work sessions with Reykjavik Art Museum‘s Departments for Education, Exhibitions and Collection.
The aim of the project was to offer an opportunity for curators, art historians or museologists of the future to put forward their own ideas and experiences of Kjarval‘s work. They have than paired objects from their own lives to the work of Kjarval that brings the myth of Kjarval closer to their own reality. The students have explained their choice of works and objects in writing, which offer guests insight to their personal findings.
