Let's Play Art: Breakfast Club – participatory performance for families

The Breakfast Club is a participatory performance that is made especially for the art festival Performance Nebula by dancer Ásrún Magnúsdóttir and the art group Little Sister in collaboration with the family program Let's Play Art.

The club welcomes all kinds of families to participate and be together. All families, of all shapes and sizes; grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, distant relatives, mothers-in-law, fathers-in-law, stepparents and stepchildren, or any family pattern.

Families get the chance to become DJs, tattoo artists and dancers where each family gets to play selected music that characterizes home life - their favorite songs or even original material.

The Breakfast Club offers participants a light breakfast, but of course it is also possible to come to the club and watch, dance together and drink coffee… or juice!

Ásrún Magnúsdóttir is a dancer and choreographer. She focuses on expanding ideas about dance and choreography. She has worked with people who do not think much about dance and got them to dance. Its goal is to build on and elevate voices that are rarely heard and direct the spotlight in new and unconventional directions. Ásrún has a lot of experience and special enjoyment of working with young people and has been involved in various artistic projects related to it, e.g. Teenage Songbook of Love and Sex, Listening Party and GRRRRRLS. Ásrún's works have been shown all over Europe at various festivals and theaters.

In collaboration with Reykjavík Dance Festival, Ásrún has set up an unconventional school for young people - curators, artists and activists of the future. This "school" is called Little Sister and it will be his "students" who take care of the Breakfast Club. They are Anna Guðrún Tómasdóttir, Freyr Yrkir Stef Steinþórsson, Magdalena Arinbjarnardóttir, Marta Ákadóttir, Natalía Lind Hagalín and Úlfhildur L.

Free for children up to 18 years old. The program is aimed at children being accompanied by adults and that the visit is thus a fun and creative togetherness between generations.
