D17 Magnús Helgason

“My objective is to make beautiful pictures. Art that meets the viewer directly in the heart and needs no explanation.”

“So, I search for inspiration wherever it can be found, for example, in music, colours, text, current issues and art by other artists.”

“Gradually I've come to the conclusion that for my art to be most effective I have to be less controlling about it. It is best to initiate an order of chance or use less conscious decisions, and then try to steer the process towards a channel worth pursuing by selecting and rejecting. The result is therefore always unforeseeable initially, because experience has taught me that most likely I will ruin things if I try to organize and plan the pieces beforehand.”

Magnús Helgason, 2010
