D2 Geirþrúður Finnbogadóttir Hjörvar
Geirþrúður Finnbogadóttir Hjörvar’s (b. 1977) versatile installations often mimic social spectacles and explore the relationship between art and reality.
Her work The Alienated Spectator is a story of a basketball and its alienation from reality as we know it, featuring acts of ontological & lyrical estrangement by Air and Spacemen 3. The exhibition consists of a basketball that bounces in a live re-enactment to demonstrate its own subjectivity. The act, that is supposed an arbitrary nature unless aligned with a clear purpose, is countered by the representation of the abstraction of the drive (per se) as non-inclusive of the principles of the viewer.
Geirþrúður Finnbogadóttir Hjörvar graduated from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2002 and with MA degree from the Art Academy in Malmö, Sweden in 2005. She is currently participating in a two year residency for young emerging artists at the Riijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.
