D42 Klængur Gunnarsson: Crooked

Klængur Gunnarsson is the 42nd artist to exhibit in Reykjavík Art Museum's exhibition series in D-Gallery. Gunnarsson was born in 1985 in Reykjavík, and lives and works in Gothenburg in Sweden. He studied at Iceland University of the Arts, at Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig – Germany and received his MFA from Akademin Valand in Gothenburg in 2019.

Blending documentary and fiction, Klængur attempts to create a skewed view of everyday events and activities. From this viewpoint, he wants to raise questions with the viewers regarding, among other things, the importance of taking a break in the cycle of everyday life. The daily documentation of the mundane closest to him leads to further processing where the artist recreates actual events or stages them in lyrical fashion. This documentation is done in several different ways, for example through photographs and text, resulting in videoworks and installation.

The D-Gallery exhibition series began in 2007. Emerging artists, who are shaping the local contemporary art scene, are invited to hold their first solo show in a public museum.
