Egill Sæbjörnsson - Spirit of Place and Narrative

For his first major solo exhibition, Egill Sæbjörnsson (born 1973) selects to show works that mark significant achievements in his artistic endeavor in re-examining art-in-general with things and places — using multimedia approaches that cross over performing and interactive art. His takes simple objects or ordinary routines and makes their insignificance into surprises. On one hand Egill Sæbjörnsson’s art works like a magic show, or a concert, or a theatre performance; on the other it is like a daydream, or simply has the amusing virtue of a nursery rhyme. The quaintness in Egill Sæbjörnsson’s art is how he bestows personalities to his fictional characters and letting them talk to each other; and how he casts unexpected twists to a rational act and making it appear genuine.

Spirit of Place and Narrative features four installations: Ping-Pong Dance (2006), Wall-to-Wall (2008), Grey Still Life II (2009), and Fimm kassar (Five Boxes) (2009). These selected works outline the artist's interest to create spectacles that set off ripples of imagination in our minds.
