Exhibition Opening - D38 Ragnheiður Káradóttir: mini-mini multiverse

Exhibition opening at Reykjavík Art Museum – Hafnarhús, Thursday 27 June at 20h00. Káradóttir is the 38th artist to exhibit in the D-Gallery series.

For the exhibition mini-mini-multiverse, artist Ragnheiður Káradóttir explores the boundaries between the man-made and the natural. She looks specifically towards places that have been designed for entertainment such as minigolf courses, parks, stadiums and amusement parks. With her installation, Káradóttir evokes some kind of breach of reality with an insight into an imaginary dimension reflecting the environment we know.

Some of the sculptures in the exhibition look familiar, as they are found objects. They receive a new role when put in a different context along with ceramics molded by Káradóttir, resulting in new exotic objects. During the creative process, the artist does not foresee the outcome and conversations between the unfathomable objects are developed. Dead objects come to life along with being personified and everyday objects get a new purpose. The playful nature of the exhibition invites the audience to make their own stories, connections and understanding.

Ragnheiður Káradóttir is born in 1984 and lives and works in Reykjavik. She received a BA in Fine Arts from Iceland University of the Arts in 2010 and graduated in the spring of 2016 with an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Káradóttir has exhibited in Iceland and abroad and is one of the founders of Lounge Corp., a curatorial concept that includes untraditional venues.

Reykjavik Art Museum‘s D-Gallery exhibition series started in 2007. Emerging artists, who are shaping the local contemporary art scene, are invited to hold their first solo show in a public museum.
