Exhibition opening at Hafnarhús – Ingibjörg Sigurjónsdóttir: This is Our First and Last Work
Ingibjörg Sigurjónsdóttir opens her art exhibition This is Our First and Last Work on Saturday 20 August at 5 p.m. in Gallery D. In her work, Ingibjörg molds the poetic and the abstract into sculptures in her search for truth and beauty.
Ingibjörg (b. 1985) completed a BA from the Fine Art department of the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2010 and has since done exhibitions, performances and projects in Iceland and abroad. Reflections and mirages from commonplace sparkling materials that momentarily expose the imperceptible occur frequently in a relentless quest for intangible beauty in her sculptures, installations and images. Alongside her artistic practice she is a board member at artist run Kling & Bang gallery and writes regular columns for the Scandinavian KUNSTforum and the Icelandic Art Center. She lives and works in Reykjavík.
Exhibitions in Gallery D focus primarily on artists who have not previously held one-person shows in Iceland’s major galleries. The objective of the exhibition series is to offer promising artists the chance to work on their own terms in a public gallery, and to draw the attention of museum visitors to new and interesting developments in the art world.
Curator is Bryndís Erla Hjálmarsdóttir.
The exhibition is on view until 13 October 2016.
