How did the future look like in the past? Final days of Yearning for Space

Yearning for Space

The exhibition Yearning for Space in Ásmundarsafn ends on Monday 28 March. The exhibition has enjoyed great popularity and was named one of the five most interesting art exhibitions of 2015 by art critics at Morgunblaðið newspaper.

Yearning for Space contains the works of four different Icelandic artists of the 20th Century: Ásmundur Sveinsson, Gerður Helgadóttir, Jón Gunnar Árnason and Sigurjón Ólafsson. Their common interest in Outer Space is obvious although they all deal with it in a different way. Sveinsson was primarily inspired by the progress of space science, while Ólafsson was interested in amateur astronomy. Helgadóttir explored the mystical dimensions of space, and Árnason looked at it from the perspective of science fiction.
