Just Painted – The Christmas Present for Art Lovers

The book Just Painted represents photographs of all the works in the exhibitions Just Painted 1 at Hafnarhús and Just Painted 2 at Kjarvalsstaðir – Reykjavík Art Museum, that were on show this year. The book covers 195 paintings made by 88 artists over the past two years. It also includes information about all the artists, and essays on painting by philosopher/art critic Gunnar J. Árnason and artist/art critic/poet Carol Diehl.

The book is intended to present a cross-section of the creative flourishing of painting in Iceland today. This is the first time that contemporary Icelandic painting is surveyed so extensively. The view is widespread that contemporary Icelandic art is characterised predominantly by new media, but Just Painted demonstrates that the field of Icelandic art is far more diverse than that.

The book is edited by Hafþór Yngvason and Hulda Stefánsdóttir. Design and layout by Studio Arnar Freyr Guðmundsson and Birna Geirfinnsdóttir. Photographer Pétur Thomsen. The book is available for ISK 10.900 at Reykjavík Art Museum’s stores – Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstaðir and Ásmundarsafn.
