Artist Talk: Eggert & Rúrí

Eggert Pétursson og Rúrí
Event location:
Hafnarhús

Artists Eggert Pétursson and Rúrí will lead a talk about their work in the exhibition Kaleidoscope: Icelandic 21st Century Art.

At the exhibition, you can see a selection of the works that have come to the museum in the last two decades. The collection spans as much as possible the breadth and the new emphases that can be found in the Icelandic art scene, both by recognized artists of the time as well as the work of younger generation of artists.

Rúrí's installation That Day... is from 2001 and highlights the iconic figure Sigríður of Brattholt, a farmer’s daugther often referred to as Iceland’s first environmentalist, who campaigned to preserve the magnificent waterfall Gullfoss from being harnessed for hydropower in the early 20th century.

Eggert's work is from 2022. His close, dizzying views of Icelandic flora originate in the nature of the land and the nature of thehuman who created them. Painted over extended time and in many layers, they enshrine memories of time spent among plants and flowers, which are committed to canvas in oils, using approaches that demand precision and knowledge of the materials: oil and nature.

Free entrance with a museum ticket and for holders of Annual Pass/Culture Pass.
