Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir: FutureCrash / Tribal TV

Ásdís Sif works with performance art in her video works, which take place in different ways in various places and times. Her FutureCrash/Tribal TV is a large video installation which springs from a previous piece by the artist, from the exhibition Apostles’ Clubhouse (2006) at Hafnarhús, Reykjavík Art Museum. It comprises a large number of videos whose narrative is unconventional, manifested as series of flickering glimpses. Ásdís Sif explores the potential of the video medium for establishing a rhythm and flow of moving pictures, in no context of time and without direct reference to material objects. The title alludes to the overlap in time, past and future, united in the now. Captivating characters appear in mysterious places, like long-forgotten splinters of memory which cannot be defined in terms of beginning and end.

Ásdís Sif (b. 1976) studied video and performance art in New York and Los Angeles. She has participated in many group shows in Iceland and abroad, as well as making video works via the internet. This year she released a poetry/video disc, Enter the Enlightenment, become real. In 2013 at the Pompidou Centre in Paris she showed video works, read poems and made video recordings on stage.
