D9 Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir

In the last couple of years, Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir has developed a distinctive style from her particular ways of combining text and visual elements into her work. Seemingly unrelated images and words are brought together to deliver, often just one idea that can be understood in terms of another. Halldórsdóttir approaches her multimedia installations with the same principle as she does with her singular work. Her installation is constructed around an understated source and she expresses her interpretations metaphorically through text, images, sound or video.

In Plenty of Nothing Halldórsdóttir continues to state her experiences as a woman, in particular an Icelandic woman. In tandem with the white space, she boldly plays with conventional, perhaps even irrelevant perceptions women have about themselves.

Halldórsdóttir graduated with a master in Fine Arts from the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland in 2007 after her studies at the Akureyri School of Visual Art. She has been showing in group and solo exhibitions in Iceland, and has also participated in group exhibitions in Finland, Scotland, Germany, Portugal, and China.
